After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Finance from SUNY Old Westbury, Chynna’s early work began to reflect her desire to help those most in need. She became a Student Advocate at Harlem Children’s Zone in 2009, where she spent three years developing individualized college and career readiness plans for at-risk youth. This position allowed Chynna to interact closely with students, understanding their unique needs and aspirations, and creating plans that would help them realize their potential.
Chynna’s time at Harlem Children’s Zone was only the beginning of her impact. In 2011, she expanded her work to include families and children with complex developmental and behavioral needs, serving as a Waiver Service Provider at Cardinal McCloskey Community Services. Her work focused on supporting these families by building bridges to ensure access to necessary services, including education, healthcare, and emotional support.
Her role as a Special Education Teacher at the NYC Department of Education from 2014 onwards allowed her to work directly with students who needed additional support, helping them navigate their academic journeys and reach their full potential. Chynna’s experience in special education brought her a unique insight into the diverse needs of students, and she became known as a teacher who went above and beyond to ensure her students felt seen, heard, and supported.

At the time of her passing, she was working towards a Doctorate in Learning and Teaching in Social Contexts at the University at Buffalo, with a focus on understanding how education can best serve all students, regardless of their backgrounds or challenges.
Chynna had previously earned two Master’s degrees: one in Educational Leadership and Administration from Hunter College and another in Special Education from Pace University. Her educational accomplishments reflected her unwavering commitment to excellence and her belief in the power of education to transform lives. But Chynna’s intellectual curiosity did not stop there. She also held a Bachelor of Science in Finance from SUNY Old Westbury, where she demonstrated leadership in various student organizations. Her educational background also included studies in Political Science at both Spelman College and Clark Atlanta University, highlighting her diverse intellectual interests and her desire to understand the intersection of politics, society, and education.
Her academic achievements were not just for personal growth—they were tools for enabling her to better serve her community and her students. Chynna used her knowledge and expertise to advocate for meaningful change, both in her classroom and within the broader educational system.
